COSMIC CAMP FOR KIDS:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, UNIVERSE
Children, ages 7 to 11 years, boys and girls (maximum of 30)
You are cordially invited to a birthday party for the universe!
Each day will be filled with lots of great outdoor events that will foster the child's love of nature and awaken in them an awe and reverence for the wonderful world we live in. Children's Programme
Songs, crafts, walks to search for the 'heart of mystery' and even building a solar oven together are just some of the great events we have planned to teach the children about ecology and the need for greater caring and respect for the earth.
The activities for the 5 days will be based on "Happy Birthday, Universe! A Cosmic Curriculum for Children" by Kim Farmer.
This innovative earth literacy program is designed to give children experiences that are scientific and sacred, serious and fun, and capable of awakening young minds to awe as environmental issues are explored.
Staff
Marianne Karsh, M.Sc.F. Director of Arborvitae, is a Professional Forester and Researcher.
Dawn Gray, B. Ed. is a teacher and scientist and mother of two children.
Carol MaCray, B. Ed., M.S.W. is a social worker and teacher with tremendous long-term camp experience. Staff Advisors
Sister Janet Fraser, CSJ, staff of St. Joseph's Center, is an educator in Earth Literacy.
Sister Gwen Smith, CSJ, community organizer, guide in eco-spirituality.
Counsellors
6 Senior High Students will be employed as counsellors for the camp to provide a ratio of 1 counsellor to every 6 children. All counsellors have previous experience in working with children.
